R.E.M.
Headliner
R.E.M.'s first tour as a three-piece following the departure of drummer Bill Berry in 1997. The tour supported their eleventh album Up (1998) and marked a significant shift in the band's live sound with the addition of touring musicians Joey Waronker (drums), Ken Stringfellow (keyboards), and Scott McCaughey (guitars). The European leg began in June 1999 with arena and festival dates, followed by a North American amphitheater tour in August-September. The setlist drew from Up as well as deep cuts across their catalog, reflecting the band's reinvention as a studio-focused outfit.
