English-Irish Celtic punk band from London, formed 1982. Shane MacGowan (vocals, d. 2023), Spider Stacy (tin whistle). Rum Sodomy & the Lash (1985), If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988). 'Fairytale of New York,' 'Dirty Old Town,' 'A Pair of Brown Eyes.' Irish trad meets punk fury. MacGowan was a genius lyricist. 'Fairytale' is the greatest Christmas song.
