American soul group from Chicago, formed 1960. Eugene Record (vocals/songwriter). 'Have You Seen Her' (1971), 'Oh Girl' (1972, #1 pop), 'A Letter to Myself,' 'Stoned Out of My Mind.' Silky smooth Chicago soul with socially conscious undertones. Eugene Record was one of soul's greatest writers. Hugely sampled in hip-hop.
