American experimental rock band from New York City, formed in 1982. Led by Michael Gira. Started as brutal no wave, evolved through post-punk, neo-folk, and apocalyptic post-rock. Filth, Soundtracks for the Blind, The Seer, To Be Kind. One of the most intense live acts.
