American rock band from New York City, formed in 1981 (disbanded 2011). Thurston Moore (guitar/vocals), Kim Gordon (bass/vocals), Lee Ranaldo (guitar/vocals), Steve Shelley (drums). Pioneers of noise rock and alt-rock. Hugely influential on grunge and indie rock. Albums include Daydream Nation, Goo, Dirty, and Murray Street.
