Roscoe Mitchell

American jazz musician from Chicago, born 1940. Co-founder of AACM and Art Ensemble of Chicago. Sound (1966) — a founding document of free jazz. Nonaah (1977). Multi-instrumentalist: saxophones, flutes, percussion. Pioneered 'sound for sound's sake' — silence, texture, and extended techniques as compositional elements.
