American industrial rock project founded by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1988. Known for dark, aggressive electronic rock. Albums include Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral, The Fragile, and Ghosts. Reznor is also an Academy Award-winning film composer.
