Congolese band from Kinshasa, formed in the 1960s by Mingiedi Mawangu (d. 2015). Amplified likembé (thumb piano) through DIY speakers made from car parts and magnets. Congotronics (2005, Crammed Discs) introduced them to Western audiences. Trance-like, distorted, transcendent. Pioneered 'Congotronics' sound.
