American punk rock band from Saint Paul, Minnesota, formed in 1979. Bob Mould (guitar/vocals), Grant Hart (drums/vocals, d. 2017), Greg Norton (bass). Helped pioneer alternative rock by combining hardcore speed with melodic pop songwriting. Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, Flip Your Wig. Hugely influential.
