American singer-songwriter from Mount Olive, Alabama (1923–1953). The most important figure in country music history. 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry,' 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' 'Hey, Good Lookin'.' Pioneered the honky-tonk style. Died at 29 but left an incomparable legacy.
