American singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois (1942–1999). Visionary soul musician who bridged civil rights-era gospel-soul with funk and social commentary. Super Fly soundtrack is a masterpiece. 'Move On Up,' 'People Get Ready' (with The Impressions). Paralyzed from stage accident in 1990.
