American zydeco musician from Opelousas, Louisiana (1925-1987). 'The King of Zydeco.' Bogalusa Boogie (1975). Pioneered zydeco — fusing Cajun with blues, R&B, and rock via his accordion and frottoir (rubboard). 'Zydeco Sont Pas Salé,' 'Bogalusa Boogie.' Grammy winner. The foundation of modern zydeco.
