American deathrock band from Los Angeles, formed 1979. Rozz Williams (vocals, d. 1998). Only Theatre of Pain (1982) — the American goth/deathrock classic. 'Romeo's Distress,' 'Spiritual Cramp.' Dark, theatrical, punk-edged goth. Williams' vision defined West Coast goth. Valor Kand continued the band post-Williams.
