American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 1965. Roky Erickson (vocals/guitar, d. 2019), Tommy Hall (electric jug). The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators (1966). First band to call their music 'psychedelic.' 'You're Gonna Miss Me.' Pioneers who paid a heavy price — Erickson institutionalized.
